Porcelain with a Purpose

Perfect Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers

Dental veneers are thin, durable tooth covers that are used to fill gaps between teeth, hide tooth discolorations to boost patients’ confidence in their smile, and change the shape of teeth. Not only are these cosmetic dental solutions strong, they’re also stain-resistant and built to last for decades! Read more about how veneers can benefit you below.

Resolve Dental Issues & Improve the Look of Your Smile

Unfortunately, not everyone is predisposed to perfectly aligned teeth. Porcelain veneers serve as the ideal solution to a number of dental problems, including:

  • Worn enamel: Tooth enamel can be naturally worn down over time from your diet, smoking or certain medications. You may also just be genetically prone to enamel loss. Veneers correct these issues by covering the affected teeth, making them stronger and correcting your smile.
  • Chips and cracks: Accidents happen! If you have an unattractive chip or crack in your tooth, veneers can restore its natural appearance.
  • Uneven spacing/alignment: While gapping is more of a cosmetic issue, uneven teeth alignment can cause bite difficulties. Veneers can fix both uneven gapping in your smile and uneven teeth.
  • Discoloration: Not all tooth discoloration disappears with teeth whitening. In these cases, veneers can restore the color of your tooth while giving you a beautifully cohesive smile.

Why Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain veneers are often used as a type of dental restoration because they offer patients incredibly natural-looking results. Your dentist can customize the look of the veneer to match the shape and color of your teeth so it seamlessly corrects your smile. Porcelain veneers are also very durable and stain-resistant. This is because porcelain is less porous than enamel, so they resist decay and discoloration better than real teeth. In addition to gorgeous, long-lasting results, veneers are also very easy to maintain. You really just need to practice good oral hygiene, as you would for normal teeth. That means brushing twice a day, flossing daily and visiting your dentist twice a year.

The Procedure

Once you and your dentist decide a porcelain veneer treatment is the best option for you, here’s what to expect during the procedure. At Perimeter Dental, we start by taking an X-ray or other type of digital imaging to give us the best look possible of where your veneer will be placed, as well as ensure the best function with the surrounding teeth. We may also take an impression of your teeth to determine how the veneer will fit best with the rest of your smile.

Procedure Day

The veneer procedure is a two-visit process: one visit to prep the tooth and one to place the veneer on it. In total, your timeline will range from two to four weeks. Perimeter Dental’s team of expert dentists start by administering a local anesthetic and removing small amounts of enamel from the front and sides of your tooth. This makes room for the veneer to slide on the damaged tooth without looking bulky or misplaced. An impression mold is then taken and sent to the lab, along with your tooth color of choice, to create your veneer. A temporary veneer will be placed on your tooth while your new tooth is being created. During your second visit, we’ll clean the placement area before we set the veneer into place. Our dentists use expert precision to put your veneer in place and bond it to your existing tooth. From here, we’ll walk you through some after-care and you’re good to go out and grace the world with your beautiful new smile.
